- 2. How many days am I allowed to be out of province before my provincial health care plan expires?
- You are allowed to be out of province 212 days in Ontario and Newfoundland, and 183 days for the rest of the provinces in any 12 month given period.
- 3. When I purchase an annual plan, when do my days get reset and start over?
- Your trip starts the day you leave your home province until the day you cross back into your home province. Then your days are reset.
- 4. Do I really need extra insurance when I travel across Canada out of province?
- Yes you do. Three main benefits that your provincial health care plan will not cover is return of vehicle, ambulance services (land, sea or air), and return of deceased body.
- 5. Who can purchase emergency medical travel insurance?
- Canadian residents who hold a valid provincial medical plan.
- 6. Are my travel insurance premiums considered a tax deductible expense on my person tax return?
- Yes, you can deduct the total premium on your income return as a medical expense. You will only get an extra refund if you qualify with the income tax guidelines.
- 7. I am leaving tomorrow on my trip, can I still purchase travel insurance?
- Yes you can. All you really need to know is your policy number and the telephone number to call in case you need to make a claim. All of this information can be given to your over the phone, emailed or faxed.
- 8. After I purchase travel insurance, what do I get in the mail from you?
- You will receive your policy wording booklet which explains all the coverages, you will receive a wallet card with your name and policy number as well as the telephone numbers to call in case of a claim, as well as your receipt with all the information for your trip.
